19th Century Hand Painted Russian Orthodox Church Icon Depicting The 12 Feast Days and the Resurrection, Gesso and Gilt Gold on Thick Wood Panel. Beautiful 19th Century (Central) Russian Icon of hand painted gesso and gilt gold on thick wood (14 x 12") depicting the Resurrection and the 12 Feast Days of the Russian Orthodox Church. As a piece of art, this is a beautiful piece of iconography, the details in the faces of the saints remarkable enhanced by the gold leaf seen throughout. The scenes depicted are: At center: The Resurrection. Surrounding is The birth of Mary, the presentation, the Annunciation, Baptism, Transfiguration, Ascension, Dormition of the Virgin, the Holy Trinity, Lifting the Cross, Entering Jerusalem and Presentation to the Elders. In excellent condition. Consignor has graciously created a folio of information regarding Iconography, the prayers that are associated with them after completion, and a thorough translation of each panel. Beautiful 19th Century Russian Icon of Exceptional Quality, Hand Painted Gesso and Gilt Gold on Wood "Mother of God" with Coins. From Central Russia an exceptional exampled ca. 1880 of "The Mother of God, The Joy To All Who Suffer with Coins". 14 x 12" on thick wood panel. Icon is based on a miracle at chapel in the 1880s where lightening struck the church shattering the alms box and charring the walls. The icon "Joy of All Who Suffer" hanging was found face down. Where it was once dark and obscure, the image became far more vivid and clear with several of the coins from the alms box stuck to the icon. As a piece of art in any decor, this is a beautiful piece and of fine quality. It has remained in excellent condition these 100+ years. Consignor has included a folio explaining the history of icons and this particular "miracle". Estimated Value $900 - UP

Four (4) Rare, Vintage Original, Hand Tinted, J.W. Hill Engravings of Sharks ca. 1840. J.W. Hill Lithographs located in Endicott, New York proved one of the premier lithographers of taxonomic illustrations of birds, reptiles and fish in the 19th century. These lithographs have proved very collectible and are prized for their detail and colors. Offered are plates 61-64 all having to do with sharks: hammerhead, great white, thresher, Pacific angel shark, mako, dogfish and more. Each lithograph is 10 x 8" and are in very fine condition given their age. One has a square of acid free tape to hold in check a puncture on verso, and another to handle a corner tear. Both virtually invisible issues. Otherwise these very hard to find lithographs would be welcome in any level of collection. Estimated Value $500 - UP

Two Engravings Celebrating Gentleman's Horse Racing, Both Published in 1866, "Returning to Weigh" and "The Run In". Two beautiful engravings by Fores's National Sports - Racing. "The Run In" (Plate 3.) and "Returning to Weigh" (Plate 4) after John Frederick Herring (1795 -1865). Engraving by Harris and Summers with colored aquatints and gum arabic both finished by hand, published and dated 1866. Plates 3 & 4 from a suite of four by Fore's National Sports London. Two superb, exceptionally handsome pieces both measuring 20 x 32" and framed to 26½ x 38½". Both pieces are framed in plexi-glass so shipping framed is not an issue. But shipping out of frame would certainly be less expensive so do let us know your preference as soon as possible after auction to adjust invoicing. Collection of 12 Miniature Works of Art, Mid-Century Modern, Scenic and Portrait Sketch Including Alexandra Exter and Chaim Gross. Collection of 12 miniature works of art the largest being 10 x 7". Several standouts: 1.) a small work by Alexandra Exter (1882-1949) who lived in France and the Russian Federation who specialized in art deco constructivist painting whose works can command thousands of dollars and displayed in galleries worldwide. Ink and colors on paper 8 x 4¾" and signed in pencil in lower right corner. 2.) Chaim Gross (1994-1901) Austrian/Poland then America, Gross is well known for sculpture and his abstract illustrative works with a gallery/museum located in the Village in New York. A pencil drawing on paper of fantastical bird-like figures with human form that is quite striking 8 x 8". 3.) Beautiful watercolor on board by artist Streitman of a lighthouse in ink and watercolor that uses only two colors yet still conveying the full beauty of a coastal scene. On board 10 x 7". 4.) Watercolor in vivid colors of Jewish men going to temple, an almost impressionist approach of something so very familiar. On paper 9½ x 4½". The balance of the collection is small ink and paper portraits, most unsigned but quite appealing. Estimated Value $400 - UP

Two extremely handsome engravings of late 19th Century champion horses captured beautifully in two paintings by the esteemed Harrington Bird and engraved after by Eugéne Tily and C.W. Stock. Both engravings measure 21 x 24" and framed to 26 x 32" and are in outstanding condition, truly fine pieces. Both engravings can be shipped without frames to save on shipping. "The British Stud" Two Mid-19th Century Engravings Each Featuring Two Horses of Note in England. Spectacular Vintage Engravings. Two English hand colored engravings one dated 1846 the other 1854, The British Stud" Camel, Banter, Barbelle and Bay Middleton are the horses and painted by J.F. Herring Sr. and engraved by J. Harris & W. Summers. (Plates 4 and 7) Superb condition. Both measure 24 x 33" and framed to 29½ x 38½. Both are framed in gilt wood frames and specific to these engravings, the frames are worth keeping and in very presentable condition. But we would like to remove the glass prior to shipping for the safety of the engravings. Let us know your preferences as soon as possible after auction. We can also ship out of frames. English, 19th Century Hand Painted Engraving "The Meet at Blagdon" Extremely Appealing Hunting Scene, J.W. Snow and Engraved by T. Lurton. Vintage original mid 19th Century hand painted engraving by Thomas Lurton based on the epic hunting scene by J.W. Snow. This is an exceptional vintage piece measuring 22 x 30 and framed to 33 x 39. Framed in plexi-glass and the deep wood frame in fine condition, this can be shipped safely. But if one prefers to save on shipping, engraving can be shipped rolled or flat, out of frame. Engraving in great condition but we note a professional repair in the clouds just above the trees on left side which has significantly minimized the very small contusion, and noticeable at very close inspection. "Britannia's Glory", Hand Tinted Etching ca. 1803. This is an antique hand-colored mezzotint and etching Britannia is in her chariot, with water-wheels and drawn by dolphins, the lion at her feet, carrying banners of the flags of England and France containing oval portraits of George III and Napoleon respectively and inscribed 'Peace with France[/England]'; Poseidon gesturing to a fleet of American, English ships in the background to right and a trumping angel flying overhead. Printed 1803
Clearly of considerable age but piece has been handsomely matted and framed with an eye towards conservation. Original art is 10½ x 13½ irregularly trimmed but with no loss to the truly fantastic art. Framed in and matted to 19 x 22½. One is on display at the British Museum in very similar condition. BEAUTIFUL VINTAGE Print: FORES'S NATIONAL SPORTS Racing Plate # 2 (A FALSE START) by John Fredrick Herring, J Harris & W Summers Published in London May 13th 1856 by MESS. Fores, at their Sporting and Fine Print Repository 41, Piccadilly. Paper measures 28.5" X 50.5" Actual Print 24.5" X 44.5". Very fine condition we note only a discoloration in lower right white margin. This litho can be shipped unframed (recommended as it is glass) to save on shipping, simply request as soon as possible after auction to adjust shipping. French Cavalry Tactics - Planche XXVIII from "Traité sur la Cavalerie", Copper Plate Engraving, Issued ca. 1800 in Outstanding Condition. Copper plate engraving "French Cavalry Tactics - Planche XXVIII" by cartographer: Louis-Hector Comte de Drummond de Melfort (1721 - 1788) and Van Blarenberghe at Guillaume Desprez, Paris in 1776. A rare print originally from the book "Traité sur la Cavalerie" in hand tinted colors. This work, describes the standard formations and tactics of the French cavalry at the time of the French Revolution. Engraving measures. 25 x 36" matted and framed to 37 x 48". We can remove this engraving from its frame to save on shipping. However this is framed in plexi-glass with very little risk of it shattering and damaging the work. Let us know as soon as possible after auction in order to price fairly shipping. Again in outstanding condition we do note a center fold line (not unusual given the size and a crease, both visible only at close distance. Estimated Value $300 - UP

Vintage 19th Century Hand Colored Engraving of Steam Frigate Cyclops, Published 1857 by Ackerman & Comp. Handsome marine engraving of the Steam Frigate Cyclops, at the time the largest in the world designed by Sir Wm. Symonds to whom this engraving is dedicated. Suffice to say, an immensely appealing and very detailed work with exceptional hand coloring. Published by Ackerman & Co. in London, 1857.
Engraving is 24 x 30" and framed to 29 x 36". Frame is in fine condition and worth keeping. However we prefer to ship without the glass. Also to save money in shipping we can remove the engraving entirely and ship rolled or flat. Simply let us know ASAP after auction. Estimated Value $300 - UP
